We are not saying that Qingdao Maple Leaf Composite Co., Ltd. is the starter of the BBQ Boat, actually the German was. And yet our team is comprised of technical elites from the United States, China, and Canada. Most of our team members has 15~20 years’ experiences on boats designing, manufacturing, and sales. No one is using Class-A modeling technology on such a small BBQ boat manufacture, we are!
When the competitors are still paying for the 3rd party boat design, and when those 3rd party designers are still using Rhinoceros 3D on modeling, we have built our own pipeline of the bbq boat design. From a vague idea to concept sketching, this is a step that most 3D modelers don’t want to face. Because they are just 3D modelers, not 3D designers, that’s a tremendous difference!
VR review and discuss about the bbq boat design
We have 3 versions of concept modeling during the bbq boat development so we can talk about the boat features based on visual demonstration. For instance, based on our interior design standard, every chord fillet radius inside of the bbq boat should be more than 10mm which prevents children from suffering serious abrasions due to accidental slips and falls. But 10mm fillet’s hightlight is too sharp after our discussion, we can add it up to 25mm or more.
Data frozen, class a modeling for the BBQ boat manufacture
When we have no questions about the new boat designs, all of the 3D data will be frozen. Then we go for the Class A modeling process.
What is Class A modeling?
To some 3D modelers, the Class A modeling means strict tolerances, and G0, G1, G2 surface continuity. Well, it’s more than that. Class-A is unique industrial data control standard that every international great company, like Mercedes-Benz, has one for their own. For example, our CNC machine milling position tolerance is 0.001mm, then our upstream 3D data should be strictly controled under 0.0005mm. That’s just G0, if it’s G1 and G2, there will be more tough and complicated detection methods for the surfaces and highlight checking.
We have heard so much endless complaints from structure engineers that Rhinoceros 3D data is terrible, the upstream modelers doesn’t care about the tolerances at all.
Here’s our suggestion, go to Rhino > Preference setting > Unit > Absolute tolerance, and check how big the default setting is. Then you will understand why the data is useless.
To the 1st round 3 versions’ concept modeling, Rhino could be a good tool, but it doesn’t mean the data can be used directly in the molds development!
Multi-aixis milling for the BBQ boat manufacture
To better protect our 3D data, we rarely hand it over to third-party CNC milling factories. We have been in this business for years, a large amount of 3d data leakage has brought immeasurable losses to manufacturers.
Obviously, on the BBQ boat manufacture, we are a very conservative builder. We would rather have a slower R&D cycle than compromise on our quality and reputation.
In 2026, we will launch antother 3 new models of BBQ Boats, it’s not a simple nesting dolls plan. We promise that the designs will be unique and the prices will cover from USD2,000 to USD26,000 for each model of BBQ boat. See you soon:)
